Cell Phone Policy

We strongly discourage students bringing cell phones to school. Trailside does not assume any responsibility for theft, loss, or damage of a cell phone, or unauthorized calls made on a cell phone.

If there is an emergency at school, caregivers will be directly contacted by school officials. This is in line with guidance from the Mapleton Director of Safety and Security and local emergency responders.

Cell phones create a large distraction from learning in the classroom. Emerging research points to the impact on students’ academic and social engagement. Learn more here.

 If students choose to bring cell phones to school, all students must leave phones on silent (not on vibrate) or turn them off. All students must turn in their cell phones to the Crew teacher. Teachers will lock student phones in the Crew phone box until the end of the day. Students participating in after-school events/practices may use their cell phones with the permission from their coach or sponsor.

Smart watches with internet, calling, or texting ability must also be turned into Crew teachers daily.

Any phone communication will take place on school telephones with permission from school personnel. This includes for illness or other circumstances that arise. Caregivers should continue to call the school for any emergency situations. This helps our school keep students safe.

If students do not turn their phone in to the classroom teacher as requested, additional consequences, such as turning the phone into the office or a caregiver picking up the phone, will be enforced.
